The Dasamsa, also known as the D10 Chart is one of the most central charts in Vedic astrology. Another name for it is Karmamsa (The Chart of Action). As the name suggests, it is created by dividing each zodiac into ten equal parts of 3 degrees each. Essentially, D10 is an extension of the 10th house of your main birth chart that focuses on career, profession and public reputation. This chart is used to zoom in on the different opportunities and career trajectories that might open up for an individual in his course of life. 

Rather than solely being a career guideline, D-10 also deeply explores the additional aspects that come along with it. This includes important questions in regards to “When will I get a job?” “What is my dream job?” “What career will make me most successful?” Moreover, it provides answers to questions related to your skills, communication abilities, workplace environment, source of income, social rank, authorship and more. 

To come to the understanding of the Dasamsa chart, we need to understand its mathematical construction.  Each 30-degree zodiac sign is divided into 10 equal segments. To find out which sign a planet falls on the D10 chart, we look at the specific 3-degree interval that the planet occupies, and if the sign it occupies in the main chart is odd or even. Because a sign is exactly 30 degrees, each of these 10 parts consists of 3 degrees of arc precisely. 

How to Count:  #

First, take a look at where your zodiac is. For Odd Signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) the starting point is the exact same sign. 

If it is an Even Sign( Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpion, Capricorn, Pisces), your starting point is the 9th sign away from it. 

Odd Signs

For Example: If Mercury is situated at 10 degrees in Gemini, it falls into the 4th part of the sign (between 9° and 12°). Gemini is an odd sign, hence the counting will start from Gemini. So starting from Gemini and counting 4 signs forward (Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo) we have Virgo. Therefore, Mercury is placed in Virgo on the D10 chart.

Even Signs

For Example: If Jupiter is situated at 19° in Scorpio, it falls into the 7th part of the sign (between 18° and 21°). Scorpio is an even sign, the 9th sign away from Scorpio is Cancer. So starting at Cancer and counting 7 signs forward (Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn) we have Capricorn. Therefore, Jupiter is placed in Capricorn on the D10 chart.

The D10 chart is very crucial in determining a person’s career path. Although it is not solely limited to that.

They are the Kendras (1,4,7,10) associated with success, social rank, work environment among other aspects and the Dusthanas (6, 8, 12) that preside over events that are difficult, complicated and inauspicious.

The 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th (Kendras) are very significant houses. Planets are highly excited here and their effect on a person’s life becomes very significant. All the major, transforming events are centered in these houses. 

• The 1st House (Lagna): The 1st House in the D10 chart indicates your professional self and how actively you focus on your career of choice. 6th House: Although ideally, the 6th house is associated with enemies, debts and diseases, in D10, the 6th house deciphers the working conditions, employees and services. It could mean unsatisfactory working conditions, work overload and more.

8th House: The 8th house is considered a place of completion or transformation. In D10, this represents an “end” of a profession, or an "end" to a professional period where there is a permanent end to a cycle. This could often translate to being laid off, retirement, sudden losing of jobs, severance, etc. 

12th House: The 12th house signifies subsequent losses, any incoming expenditure and waste. In D10, this could mean heavy workloads, dealing with sudden adversaries, being forced to take secret leaves or long leaves from work. It rules foreign matters and confinement, so it could also mean foreign confinements or jobs in hospitals or jails.
