What Is Sree Lagna ?
Sree Lagna (SL) is a special mathematical ascendant used to evaluate overall prosperity, fortune, divine blessings, earning potential, and comfort of life. The Sanskrit word 'Sree' means wealth and is also another name for Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and the wife of Lord Narayana. Unlike the regular Ascendant, Sree Lagna moves twice as fast through the zodiac. A strong Shree Lagna means an individual will live a blessed and fortunate life.
How to Calculate:
Determine the Moon's Nakshatra: Identify the Nakshatra (lunar constellation) occupied by the Moon at the time of birth. Each Nakshatra spans 13°20′, or 800 minutes.
Calculate the Moon's Progress Within the Nakshatra: Find the exact distance the Moon has traveled within its Nakshatra and calculate what fraction it is of the entire Nakshatra.
Convert the Fraction to Zodiac: Multiply this fraction by 360°, representing the full zodiac.
Add the Result to the Ascendant: Add the calculated amount to the exact longitude of the birth Ascendant (Lagna).
Find the Final position: If the total exceeds 360°, subtract 360° (or multiples of 360° if necessary) until the value falls within the 0°–360° range. The final longitude obtained through this process is the Sree Lagna.
For Example:
Assume a native has their Moon at 13°06' Libra and their Lagna at 25°05' Virgo.
The Moon at 13°06' Libra falls in Swati Nakshatra, which extends from 6°40' Libra to 20°00' Libra. Calculate how far the Moon has progressed within Swati. Subtract the starting point of Swati (6°40') from the Moon's position (13°06'), giving 6°26'. Convert this to minutes: 6°26' = 386 minutes. Since every Nakshatra spans 13°20' = 800 minutes, divide 386 by 800 to get 0.4825. Multiply 0.4825 by 360°. This gives 173.7°, which is equal to 173°42'. Convert the Lagna to its total longitude from 0° Aries. Since Virgo begins at 150°, 25°05' Virgo equals 175°05'. Add 173°42' to 175°05', resulting in 348°47'.
A longitude of 348°47' falls in Pisces. Subtracting the beginning of Pisces (330°) gives 18°47' Pisces. Therefore, the Sree Lagna is 18°47' Pisces.
What is Shree Lagna in astrology?
Shree Lagna is a special point in Vedic astrology named after Goddess Lakshmi (Shri). It indicates divine blessings, fortune, and overall prosperity in a person's life.
Is Shree Lagna the same as Indu Lagna?
No. Both are related to prosperity, but Indu Lagna is calculated differently and focuses more specifically on accumulated wealth, while Shree Lagna reflects broader fortune, grace, and auspiciousness in a person's lifetime.
What does Shree Lagna in the 2nd or 11th house mean for money?
These are wealth-related houses, so Shree Lagna placed here often points to prosperity flowing through accumulated wealth, family resources, or steady income gains.
Can Shree Lagna tell me what career is right for me?
Not directly. Career-specific guidance comes from the 10th house and its ruling planet. What Shree Lagna shows is which area of life your fortune tends to flow through, which may or may not align with your career, but can definitely work alongside it.
