Ashtakavarga

In Vedic astrology, Ashtakavarga is a special system that scores the strength of each house in your birth chart. The word means eightfold division because it uses the positions of the seven main planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) plus your Ascendant (Lagna).

Each planet and the Ascendant give points to the twelve houses based on where they sit and how they interact with other planets. This score shows how strong or weak each area of your life is likely to be.

There are two main types:

  • Sarva Ashtakavarga: Adds up points from all planets for each house.

  • Bhinna Ashtakavarga: Shows how much each planet contributes individually.

For example, a high score in the 10th house (career) suggests good growth and opportunities during the right planetary periods. However, a low score might mean work struggles or slow progress, so astrologers may suggest remedies like mantras, rituals, or gemstones.

Ashtakavarga is like a quick health check for your chart. It indicates to astrologers which houses have solid support and which may require additional attention.
